Introduction

Divo is Icaro’s new helmet, designed for the most demanding sports. It is a true game-changer in terms of safety – our first helmet with certification even for the largest versions, right up to size 62 – and it is a brilliant example of Italian design creativity.

It looks spectacular from all sides, with a streamlined profile and subtle detailing, including the Italian flag at the back, a reference to Italy's vast heritage of art and engineering prowess. The team that created Divo comprises leading experts in the field, amongst whom Felice Manzoni, Italy's top helmet development consultant, and graphic designer Ignazio Bernardi. The name Divo (the word means “star of the show”) reflects Icaro's preference for maximum quality and no frills. It exemplifies the "less is more" approach that has always hallmarked the brand’s desire to offer the very best in terms of performance, comfort and protection. Like its predecessors, Divo represents the very best on the market, sky-high for its performance and elemental beauty.

Technical data (index)

Italian Design

Design

Divo’s superb appearance was masterminded by Ignazio Bernardi, in collaboration with Felice Manzoni from Italy’s leading helmet design studio
Every new helmet project begins from the desired performance characteristics. After defining the specifications, the form is generated by hand-crafting processes, working on wood and plaster. The resulting prototype is transformed into numerical data, with a 3D file successively used for computerized design and colour simulations. Once the design has been approved, the data is transferred to the CNC machines controlling the manufacture of the fiberglass outer shell, the polystyrene inner shell, and the other components such as visor, chinstrap and so forth
After the industrial process has been defined, definitive production helmets are assembled, tested, certified, packed and distributed
Divo is a remarkable combination of Italian design excellence and engineering efficiency

Tough fiberglass outer shell

Divo’s outer shell comprises a carefully-engineered series of fiberglass layers, accurately cut and inserted into the mould. Each layer is treated with special composite resins and left to dry before working on the next layer. The resulting laminated structure is light and exceptionally resilient, capable of dispersing energy and optimizing impact protection

Polystyrene inner shell

Design

The expanded polystyrene (EPS) inner shell guarantees extreme lightness, assuring the greatest possible user comfort while also playing an important protective role. The EPS foam, density 70 kg/m3 (70 g/l), is designed to optimize impact attenuation for the incidents that may occur in air sports and other comparable applications.

Sizes

Size

The size of a helmet is specified by the comfort padding’s inner circumference.
The size number therefore corresponds to the head circumference in centimetres, which can be measured directly using a soft tape.
On Divo, the available sizes are: Small 56-57, Medium 58-59, Large 60-61, and Extra-large 62-63 cm

Interchangeable internal padding

Design

The innermost layer of padding is made using the innovative, high-quality, super-soft fabric Coolmax, which optimizes comfort by absorbing perspiration, wicking it away from the scalp and allowing it to evaporate. This ensures that the user stays cool and dry at all times.
The padding, fastened using Velcro, can be easily removed, washed and replaced.
If the helmet is not a perfect fit, we can send you new padding free of charge, independently from where you bought the product.

4 caps are available:

Cheek pads

Design

Divo's internal padding can be tailored to optimize fit.
In the same way, the cheek pads are interchangeable to ensure perfect comfort.
We supply each helmet with cheek pads that we consider as standard for the respective helmet size. However, we have cheek pads in four sizes.
If the cheek pads on your helmet are too tight, or loose, we will send you replacement cheek pads of a different size, free of charge.

Visor

DesignDesignDesignDesign

The transparent or brown visor is an optional.

Divo's visor is made in optical-class injection-moulded polycarbonate, with high impact resistance, anti-scratch and anti-fog, for optimum optical clarity. It is easy to clean using a mild soap solution.

Material: 1,200 kg/m3 polycarbonate with anti-scratch treatment.
Thickness: 2 mm
Total light transmittance:
88% transparent visor
37% brown visor

Visor fixing system

Design

In order to further increase safety for paraglider pilots, we have introduced a new visor fastening system (patent pending).
It was essential to ensure that the aluminium disc does not project from the outer shell by more than 5 mm, ensuring that the paraglider lines cannot get caught on the helmet.
This modification was also mandatory for EN 966 certification.
There is an O-ring inside the aluminium disc which provides the friction necessary to adjust visor position continuously and smoothly.
The degree of friction can be adjusted as required using the hex key supplied with the helmet.
When the visor is lifted completely, it is entirely outside the field of vision.

Internal ventilation

DesignDesign

Considering high-velocity sports such as hang gliding, paragliding, luge riding and so forth, we have determined that user comfort is optimized by the internal ventilation provided by the two intake slots on the chinpiece.

Micrometric chin strap

DesignDesign

The chin strap is easy to adjust, with millimetric precision, using both the red quick release clip, and the double D-ring for strap length adjustment.
Just lift the red tab to undo the strap.
The chin strap is padded with soft, comfortable fabric.

Colours

Divo is currently made in two colours.
Carbon Optic is a spectacular grey finish inspired by the appearance of carbon fiber.
Bianco Perla recalls the opalescent effect of natural pearls, warmer and more visually interesting than plain white.

EN 966 Certification

Design

The photo illustrates the rigorous testing performed as part of EN 966 certification.
Icaro’s helmets are tested by Newton, a laboratory authorized by Italy’s Ministry of Transport.
Divo was designed specifically for hang glider, paraglider and microlight pilots. It is made to be as light as possible, with no compromises on safety.
Divo is certified in compliance with the European EN 966 standard.

EN 966 Test Report

Design

Take a look at Newton’s interesting EN 966 Test report (9 pages)
This detailed study shows that the test results are comfortably within the limits set by the Standard, a numerical demonstration of the helmet’s excellent level of safety.

Dimensions and weight

Design

Divo is 235 mm in width, 235 mm in height and 345 mm in length. During certification, the helmet passed the test for satisfactory peripheral vision and vertical field.
The helmet, without visor, weighs 800 grams
The visor 132 grams The visor fixing system 10 grams.

Italian-made quality

InternoInterno

All our helmets are created by Italian designers, made in Italy using Italian materials and technology, assembled at our workshop in Laveno by trained Italian personnel, and certified by an Italian company.
It would be cheaper to outsource production overseas.
We prefer to do everything ourselves, here in Italy, for a reason: quality, which means safety and user satisfaction.
Our quality is not just a slogan: it is demonstrated by tangible results. Our hang gliders and helmets are used by leading pilots who have conquered an impressive list of world championship victories.
And you can see quality in action. You are welcome to visit our premises and watch our team working on the helmets.
